Cue Alice Cooper

Now that the final bell of the 2016-2017 school year has rung, it is time to crank some Alice Cooper and prepare for the pool. While I miss our conversations, your early exit has allowed me to start -- gasp -- reading for pleasure and not for school!

I look forward to seeing the majority of you at graduation - a last chance to relive our little AP Lit universe. I'll be on the gold side in row 4 if you are happening to look for me or want to legally call me by my first name after you receive your diploma.

This is the first year I have had two sections of Lit, and you did not disappoint - even when you had pages of readings, another box prompt to do, or some random creative endeavor that I thought would be memorable and engaging to the literary process. I will miss all of you and your energy, passion, and creativity!

Video Links

To do not despair, I will have a more thorough final post for my AP Lit groups tomorrow - when I have finished up grading duties and have some peace and quiet to compose something worthwhile. In the meantime, I meant everything I said to both classes today: you are the brightest group of literary scholars I know, and you will change the world if you work together and utilize all your strengths.

Here are the links for my second hour ladies:

The first to metaphorically represent the "fight" inherent in all of us, and to show how gender roles have changed over time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AhU12zC8fc

The second to remind us all that life, in all of his hardships, still is just a show to enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elsh3J5lJ6g

The Almost Last Day

Don't forget to be part of our AP Lit celebrations tomorrow as we say goodbye to our little world of monsters, creature, swimmers, and bastards (that is a reference to King Lear by the way and, technically, Brave New World).

Film Studies & Art

1. We finished up the film and dished about the cinematography, character choices, and connection to the text.

2. You completed a verbal free response prompt. Absentees will need to make this up.

3. You analyzed the book art of my Wuthering Heights collection. And, I forgot to bring on with me: https://mareseosullivan.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/wh-full-cover.jpeg

Goodbye to the Heights

Like Cathy and Hareton fleeing the ghostly haunts of the Heights, you turned in your WH books today. While still have movie time and a couple activities to do regarding the book, you will no longer need your texts. Or, any text for that matter. If you still have a large burdensome textbook or a petite novel in your possession, bring those back a.s.a.p. After I finish your last essays, I will be dealing with books!

Shirts

AP Lit, make sure to wear or bring your class t-shirt so that we can celebrate the class and take photos!

Recap Day

With the test 2 days away, today's class reemphasized the needed requirements of the synthesis, rhetorical analysis, and argument essays and reviewed your latest MC exam.

Tomorrow will be the final two rounds of MC, the return of the argument, and card play to review.

We are 2 days away from the exam!

The LAST ESSAY

AP Lit essay writing is completed. Our world will now be about Heathcliff and A Brave New World.

For Wednesday's class - so far away - finish up WH and wear your shirts so we can take a class photo!

The Second Generation

We have now met all the second generation characters: the sweet Cathy, the athletic Hareton, and the puny Linton. It's time to see the redo of the original love triangle and if the same ending will occur for them.

Tomorrow is the final essay, the last free response. (Unless, of course, you still have to make up prompts from last week.)

Have WH finished for next Wednesday's class!

The Winning Shoe

Here are the top 5 shoes according to AP Lit:

5. Christian Louboutin Explozina in White & Black

4. Charlotte Olympia Ophelia in Pink http://images.harrods.com/img/5417902?$productlistpage$

Thank you for participating in our voting - or a fun way to break up the preparations for the AP exam. One day there will be a shoe passage on that test! And, hopefully it will be an aubade in dactylic hexameter!

Testing Day!

Now that I have had my first full cup of espresso in my life and have crashed down back to earth, I wanted to jot down how proud I am of my AP Lit group for going through the exam this morning and braving the pouring, cold rain to do so! I know you all did your best and one day - some far away day in July - we will find out how the multiple choice, poem, prose, and free response treated you.

Tomorrow will be your informal presentation of your WH chapter, and we will watch some of the film. Friday will be the last prompt - a free response one - of AP Lit (unless, of course, you need to makeup any of the previous prompts or MC from last week). Then, we will finish WH and do a little performance piece of Brave New World. I guess I should figure out costumes for this one. The Scarlet Letter costumes are so easy in comparison.

Have a restful night - I will be viewing the documentary on Heath Ledger :)

One Day More

One more day to AP Lit glory
One more day to scores of five
Tomorrow is the testing day
Tomorrow we'll discover what the college board has in store
One multiple choice
Three more prompts
One day more

Hopefully, you figured out the allusion above. If not, then I suggest you listen to the original song and become inspired to do your best on tomorrow's AP Lit exam. (Yes, I know it's not a revolution that will cause table leaders to sigh, but we can still have gusto and fervently attack those prompts!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otZKdoHs06g

In any and all circumstances, you are ready to take the AP Lit exam and its multiple choice, poetry texts, prose passages, and free response prompts. While I know some of you are attached to your texts (Catcher in the Rye, Call of the Wild, The Great Gatsby, A Doll's House), don't forget to review a couple more just in case. We have had the pleasure to read The Awakening, Grendel, King Lear, The Metamorphosis, The Cherry Orchard, Frankenstein, and The Importance of Being Earnest. I would add my darling Heathcliff to the mix, but we have yet to finish his story.

Breakfast will be available at 6:50 a.m. for our testers, toast will be at 7:15, and I will escort you to the front of the school at 7:20. Don't forget your pencils, pens, erasers, snacks, layers, and umbrellas (we're not talking Noah building ships in the parking lot, but rain is expected for the majority of the day). And, it will be the last chance to vote on the AP Lit shoes tomorrow!

It has been such a pleasure to work with all of you this year. I love talking about books, and I'm glad to find 33 of you that do too!

Two Days More

We are two days from the AP Lit exam, and the feeling at our review session is one of excitement! After so much reading -- remember The Awakening all those months ago? -- you have amassed a literary treasure trove of texts, poetic elements, and characterization techniques that will aid you in every part of the AP Lit exam.

Tuesday = the last review session for the AP Lit exam
Wednesday = breakfast at 6:50, last chance to vote for shoes, toast at 7:15, test at 7:20, pizza celebration afterwards; alternative assessment in second and fourth hours
Thursday = informal presentations of WH chapters 12-20 plus movie time
Friday = free response prompt, movie time
Next week = rest of WH, some activities to keep us busy and analyzing literature
Next week = goodbyes - no creeping required unless you would like that means of exit
