Goodbye, My Pilgrims

I just want to thank you for the best AP Literature class I could have ever imagined. From Edna slinking off to the sea to Heathcliff bashing his head against a tree, you have exhibited the highest level of analysis, character connections, and poetical creativity imaginable. You have supported one another, you have supported me, and you have supported literature of all kinds: epic, Shakespeare, ode, elegy, Metamorphosis, frame, Romantic. The eleven of us made a superior team, almost akin to the 1992 Dream Team trouncing opponents from the Portland trials to the Barcelona Olympics. 

Continue reading, finding the caesura that authors create to explore their themes, and writing with individualistic gusto. I will miss all of you!

Malpais

Our Brave New World has now transferred to the reservation of Malpais, a place of human emotion, possession, and, alas, violence. As we look at another flawed world, we will see how Lenina and Bernard are affected by the people there and the secrets they are about to share. Make sure to read chapters 8-10 for tomorrow.

As our time together dwindles down, we will continue our BNW book club with chapters 5-7. For those of you hanging out with the AP Gov test tomorrow, make sure you check the next blog for updated readings.

I'm still trying to imagine a school year without the 10 of you in it! I'm probably going to cry next week, so I hope you enjoy the spectacle.

Book Club for Monday

For my big crowd of 3 people, we watched the remainder of Wuthering Heights. Afterwards, I introduced you to Aldous Huxley, the author of Brave New World, our final book club selection. For those taking the APUSH test or hanging out in Branson, I e-mailed the author notes to you. I would definitely read these notes to preview the textual themes and ideologies apparent in the first chapter and beyond. For Monday, make sure to read through Chapter 4. You are more than welcome to read beyond that point or even the whole book.

So so so proud of my lovely AP Lit class today. After all the poems, plays, epics, novels, carpe diems, and limes, we have finished the pilgrimage and now can enjoy an end of the year book club!
